  1. INTRODUCTION
  2. PMJPEG is a shareware image viewer with image processing and conversion
  3. capabilities for OS/2 2.x.  PMJPEG is a port of WinJPEG to OS/2 2.x.
  4.  
  5. PMJPEG v.1.31 has the following features:
  6.   - display JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, Windows BMP, or OS/2 BMP images
  7.   - export an image to JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, or OS/2 BMP
  8.   - capability of generating 256-color OS/2 desktop-background bitmaps
  9.     that use the desktop's system colors
  10.   - display of 24-bit images with 1-pass or 2-pass(for JPEG only)
  11.     quantization and Floyd-Steinberg dithering
  12.   - color balance: red, green, and blue adjustment
  13.   - hue, saturation, and brightness adjustment
  14.   - contrast enhancement
  15.   - image rotation, vertical or horizontal flip, and image resizing
  16.   - image cropping
  17.   - batch file compression of GIF, TIFF, or TARGA files to JPEG File
  18.     Interchange Format (JFIF)
  19.   - copy an image to the clipboard
  20.   - paste an image from the clipboard
  21.   - slideshow: display selected files sequentially with a cycle option
  22.   - image buffering in a cyclic slideshow
  23.   - support for file name extension association and starting a slideshow
  24.     from the command line

  26. In order to see images displayed with the right colors, you must use a
  27. version of OS/2 and a 256 color driver that support palette manager.
  28. Both OS/2 2.0 with the Service Pack and OS/2 2.1 beta support palette
  29. manager.

  31. If you are using the 256 color ET4000 driver that comes with OS/2 2.1
  32. beta, you'll notice that the image under the dialog box or under the
  33. drop-down menu is not re-drawn correctly.  This is a bug in the ET4000
  34. driver.  Use the Auto-Refresh option if you have this problem.

  36. When you exit, the system colors may not return to normal.  This appears
  37. to be a bug with the palette manager of the December 1992 OS/2 2.1 beta.
  38. However, the palette does appear to correct itself after you open and/or
  39. close a window, such as the window list.

  51. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  52. You are free to distribute this shareware version of PMJPEG as long as the
  53. following conditions are met:
  54.   1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  55.   2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  56.   3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  57.      is permitted.
  58.   4) This version is not to be bundled with a commercially sold package
  59.      without permission from the authors.

  62. HOW TO REGISTER   
  63. If you use PMJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  64. PMJPEG.  When you register, you will receive the latest version of
  65. PMJPEG, a user manual, and a collection of JPEG images (we will put as
  66. many as we can fit on 2 720k 3 1/2" floppies, on 1 1.44M
  67.  3 1/2" floppy, or on 4 360k 5 1/4" floppies).  Also, the registered
  68. version does not have the reminder-to-register screen at the start.
  69.  
  70. The registration fee is only $20.  MA residents, add 5% sales tax to the
  71. registration fee.  US residents, add $3 for shipping and handling;
  72. non-US residents, add $8 for shipping and handling.   If you want PMJPEG
  73. e-mailed to your account instead of having it physically mailed to you,
  74. there is no extra shipping charge.

  76. Updates are free but the shipping charge described above applies to updates.
  77. Users who register PMJPEG and provide an e-mail address will automatically
  78. receive updates via e-mail.
  79.  
  80. For e-mail registrations, you need to use a program called "uudecode" to
  81. decode the uuencoded file that we e-mail to you.  For your information,
  82. a uuencoded file is a binary file that is converted to text by a program
  83. called "uuencode".  If your mail system rejects large messages, we will
  84. split the uuencoded file into smaller parts before mailing the parts to
  85. you, and you will need to edit the messages with a text editor before
  86. you can decode them.  Compuserve, for example, does not permit large
  87. e-mail messages.  Also, the uuencoded file is rather large; it is
  88. approximately 300k for PMJPEG v.1.31.  Compuserve users may find it less
  89. expensive to receive PMJPEG via U.S. Mail.

  91. Registrations with the incorrect fee or with non-US currency will be
  92. returned.

  100. Registration of PMJPEG is based on "personal usage."  Corporate or
  101. organizational users must register all copies used on an individual
  102. basis; a specific person (name) must be explicitly assigned to each
  103. registrant who will be provided with a personalized copy of PMJPEG.
  104. Registration grants a specific person (not an organization or
  105. corporate entity) the right to use PMJPEG.

  107. Although we will try to mail your copy of PMJPEG 1-3 weeks after
  108. we receive your registration, please allow up to 4-6 weeks for
  109. delivery.
